CON SAFETY TIPS

Immersing ourselves in the world of conventions is a thrilling experience, but ensuring safety should be a top priority. Below are a few essential safety tips to enhance your experience. By incorporating these safety tips into your convention routine, you not only safeguard yourself but also contribute to creating a secure and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Cosplay is Not Consent:Respect and consent are non-negotiable. Remember that a cosplay does not imply permission for unwanted physical contact or inappropriate behavior. Always ask for permission before taking photos and be mindful of personal boundaries.

Have a Helper for Vision or Mobility Impairing Cosplays:If your cosplay affects your vision or mobility, have a trusted friend or helper to assist you. This not only ensures your safety but also prevents accidents in crowded convention spaces.

Report Incidents to Convention Staff or On-Site Security:If you witness or experience any concerning incidents, immediately report them to convention staff or on-site security. They are there to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.

Familiarize Yourself with Emergency Exits:Take a moment to identify the emergency exits in the convention center. Knowing the quickest way out in case of an evacuation is a proactive safety measure.

Inform Friends of Your Whereabouts:Cell and Wi-Fi signals can be unreliable within convention centers. Inform your friends or companions about your whereabouts and have a pre-established plan in case you get separated. Establish meeting points and communication methods.

Attend with a Friend or Group:Going out with a friend or a group provides an extra layer of safety. Watch out for one another, especially in crowded areas. If attending alone, consider forming connections with other solo attendees for mutual support.

Trust Your Instincts:If something feels off or makes you uncomfortable, trust your instincts. Don’t hesitate to remove yourself from a situation and seek help if needed. Your safety is paramount.

Be Mindful of Your Surroundings:Stay aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Pickpocketing and accidental collisions can occur, so be vigilant to prevent any mishaps.

Emergency Contacts and Information:Keep a list of emergency contacts in your cosplay or bag. Include important information such as allergies or medical conditions. In case of an emergency, this information can be crucial.

Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks:While enjoying the convention, ensure you stay hydrated. Take breaks when needed, especially if your cosplay is cumbersome or restrictive. Prioritize your well-being throughout the event.

Never Leave Drinks Unattended:It’s a golden rule—never leave your drinks unattended, and don’t accept drinks from strangers. If you set your drink down, get a new one to be sure it hasn’t been tampered with. Stay vigilant about what you consume.
