Dragon Con is one of the most unique pop culture experiences in the world—an event that proudly breaks the traditional convention mold. Cosplay, celebrities, live music, fan panels, late-night parties, massive parades, and interactive experiences take over downtown Atlanta, Georgia, transforming the city into a fully immersive celebration of fandom and creativity.

Unlike a single convention hall event, Dragon Con spreads across multiple hotels and venues, creating a living, breathing cultural festival that runs nearly 24 hours a day. Whether you're a sci-fi enthusiast, gamer, horror fan, comic book collector, or simply someone who loves people-watching and creative expression, there is truly something for everyone.

One thing we’ve discovered year after year is simple: there is more to do at Dragon Con than any one person could possibly experience in a single visit. With hundreds of panels, performances, meet-and-greets, and special events happening simultaneously, planning ahead is not just helpful—it’s essential.

If you’re thinking about attending next year, preparing a schedule in advance will make a huge difference in how much you’re able to see and enjoy. Fortunately, Dragon Con provides several tools to help attendees navigate the experience.

Get the App!

The official Dragon Con mobile app is one of the most valuable resources available to attendees. It allows you to browse panels, build a personalized schedule, receive updates, and locate events in real time. With so much happening across multiple buildings, the app quickly becomes your command center for the weekend.

LAIR(S) OF THE DRAGON

Dragon Con is a sprawling event that encompasses multiple host hotels and venues throughout downtown Atlanta, most of which are connected by climate-controlled sky bridges. This unique layout allows attendees to move between locations without ever stepping outside, creating a seamless convention environment that feels like its own self-contained world.

Each hotel serves as a hub for different activities and experiences, giving every location its own personality while still contributing to the overall energy of the convention.

For example:

  • The Marriott Marquis hosts the famous Walk of Fame, where fans can meet celebrity guests, collect autographs, and participate in photo opportunities.

  • The Hyatt Regency features the prestigious Juried Art Show, showcasing professional and fan-created artwork across a wide range of genres.

  • The Westin Peachtree Plaza serves as a major destination for tabletop gaming, video games, and competitive play.

  • The Hilton Atlanta is known for premium photo ops, themed programming, and large-scale fan gatherings.

Every hotel hosts a wide variety of panels, parties, live music performances, workshops, and social events throughout the entire convention weekend. Simply wandering through the hotels can lead to unexpected discoveries—from spontaneous cosplay photo shoots to late-night dance parties and pop-up performances.

THE VENDOR & ARTIST HALL

The Vendor Hall and Artist Alley at Dragon Con are located in the massive AmericasMart Building 2, one of the busiest and most exciting destinations of the entire convention. These halls span Floors 1, 2, and 3, while comic creators and pop culture artists are typically featured on Floor 4, making the building a multi-level marketplace filled with art, collectibles, and fandom treasures.

However, with popularity comes one important reality: the line to enter the Vendor Hall can be notoriously long during peak hours. It’s not uncommon for wait times to stretch well beyond an hour, especially on Friday afternoon and Saturday, when attendance is at its highest. The line itself has become something of a Dragon Con tradition—part endurance test, part social experience—as fans share stories, compare cosplay plans, and build excitement before entering the hall.

THE PARADE

A centerpiece of the Dragon Con experience is the legendary parade! Thousands of onlookers line the streets of downtown Atlanta and tune in on Dragon Con TV around 10:00 AM on Saturday morning to watch hundreds of floats, vehicles, and fandom groups march along Peachtree Street, passing directly through the heart of the convention district. The route is easily accessible from the host hotels, making it convenient for attendees to participate or watch. But arrive early for a good spot!

COSPLAY

Dragon Con draws together some of the most creative cosplayers from novice fans to pros. One of the most unique aspects of cosplay at Dragon Con is that it happens everywhere. Costumed fans fill the host hotels, sky bridges, streets, restaurants, and late-night parties, creating an immersive atmosphere that lasts around the clock. You don’t have to be part of an official contest to participate—at Dragon Con, cosplay is simply part of the culture.

PUTTING THE CULT IN CULTURE

One thing that makes Dragon Con truly unique is the spontaneous moments that evolve into full-blown fan traditions. Over the years, these quirky happenings have created a kind of “cult” culture within the convention that longtime attendees eagerly look forward to.

The most legendary example is the iconic Marriott carpet pattern, which has become an unofficial symbol of the con. Other beloved fan-created icons include Trashy, the googly-eyed trash can that somehow became a mascot, the Cult of John—inspired by a FedEx promotional standee turned makeshift altar—and the ever-popular tradition of gratuitous ribbon collecting, where attendees stack humorous ribbons onto their badges.

THE DRAGON NEVER SLEEPS

When the sun goes down, things only get louder, wilder, and more energetic. Nightlife is a major part of the Dragon Con experience, with themed parties, DJ events, and live performances happening across the host hotels well into the early morning hours. For many attendees, the convention truly comes alive after dark.

Signature events include fan-favorite gatherings like the legendary Bunny Hutch Party, the Open Casket Goth Party, and high-energy dance events such as the seemingly endless Pulse Loft Party. Live music is also a cornerstone of Dragon Con nightlife, featuring performances from convention staples like the iconic darkwave band The Crüxshadows, who have performed at the convention annually for more than two decades.

Whether you're dancing in full cosplay, catching a late-night concert, or simply exploring the buzzing hotel lobbies, Dragon Con nightlife delivers a nonstop party atmosphere that keeps the energy going until sunrise.
